Welcome to the forum! The Trailblazer has a timing belt which is a "belt in oil system".

Belt in oil? Never heard of that type of set up.
It's just a way of saying it's not a dry belt system but instead the belt is exposed to the engine oil. Timing belts are either wet or dry while timing chains are always "wet" or in the oil.

I was under the impression that only the 1.2L has a timing belt and the 1.3L has a timing chain. The owners manual only mentions changing the timing belt on the 1.2L, "Replace oil pump drive belt and timing belt. (LIH 1.2L L3 Engine Only) ". Also checked Rock Auto And they list a belt for 1.2L and chain for 1.3L.

I'll see if I can find more info. There seems to be conflicting info from different sources.

From what I've found so far.

The balance shaft and oil pump are driven by the balance shaft chain and the camshafts are driven by a belt.
