Literally bought the new 2022 Trailblazer RS 8 days ago with 5 miles on it. Has 375 miles and today when I turned it off there was a squeaking noise coming from the engine.. wasn’t doing that until today. Very irritated. Called the dealership and now I have to bring it in. Which is unfortunate for us who work Monday-Friday and the service department isn’t open on weekends. For a brand new car it should be making zero noises. Has anyone else had any similar issues?

I have a TB LT 21 my car also makes a random noise when I turn off the engine but I believe it is normal. I do sometimes get a random static sound but most likely to be coming from the speaker, maybe the noise coming from the engine is just calibrating.

Perhaps it will go away after you puts some miles on it. Sorta like a new gym shoe, a little squeaky on floors to you have them on for a bit. ????

I would still keep a mental note of it if it keeps happening and if you are taking it to the same dealer for all maint needs make sure they STILL agree it is doing it so if you have bigger issues down the road you can say I have been telling you for X amount time about that one issue, ya remember.

They said it was the turbo wastegate and it was normal. I was actually surprised they came back with an answer instead of the typical “we couldn’t hear anything” even ran a stress test on it. Said car was great.

The Trailblazer has an electric wastegate that shouldn't make any noise when opening or closing. The wastegate should already be closed when shutting the engine off. The wastegate is used to bleed off excess pressure which usually happens between shifts or higher rpm's, but since it's electronically controlled the computer can more precisely control pressure at any rpm which makes the engine more efficient and reduces wear on the engine. I've also heard the noise, but only with the stereo turned down. It's barely noticeable and I personally believe it's the turbo itself and not the wastegate, but in any case I wouldn't worry about it unless it gets louder. If it is the turbo the noise should get quieter over time as it breaks in some. The clearances inside a turbo are very tight.

Thank you for your response! I did some research on this after they told me that and thought it was kind of far fetched. Like most dealerships do, if they can’t pin point a sound they’ll just make something up. Lol. Your diagnosis seems more accurate. I was thinking like “how is the wastegate open if the car is just sitting in park?”
I agree, I don’t think it’s anything to be concerned with and I’m hoping it will go away as the engine gets more broken in. I really appreciate your response, I’m a female and don’t know a ton about cars and I always get the run around every time. I. I also don’t hear it unless the radio is off and my window is cracked. Other than that can’t hear it lol

Squeaks from the engine bay is usually attributed to belts/pulleys. Since the 1.3L uses a chain for timing, the only belt we have is the accessories belt/serpentine. You can inspect it if you have the tools, or just have the dealer do it.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll probably just wait and see if anything changes. I already took it in and of course it was a waste of time. The car is brand new so they don’t really care lol

I have been having problems with my 21’ Silverado with a 2.7. It makes two squawks upon shut down and on real cold days it makes a single squawk during a certain rpm range or shift. It only does this in the cold. Had the turbo replaced and it is still doing it on cold days. It is the wastegate. Must have some metal that constricts in cold weather and make noise due to it. Hoping they fix the issue, last time I was in the lubed it and said that should fix it…. Got home and it did the same thing. Plenty of days to test it out this winter in MN but if you were in a warm climate there wouldn’t be any issues I believe.

Sounds like your issue is similar to mine! Except I live in Arizona lol. It does it when it’s warm and cold. Every time I turn it off lol. At this point I don’t even care anymore. Haha
