I just washed my car this morning and noticed that the plastic on the roof rail is starting to discolor.. anyone else experiencing this?
Pay no attention to the water spots, i was still in the middle of cleaning it when i took the picture.

right after i got i had it coated with a ceramic coating. but nothing since then. i have nealy 7k miles on it and this is just something that recently started to happen.

yep. and i inspected all of the other plastic panels and all of them are ok. its just this piece that looks like this.

If it's not the ceramic coating maybe that plastic piece is defective? I would show the dealership and tell them you want it replaced. That should be covered under warranty.

im 99% sure its not the ceramic. it was done when it was under 500 miles, and now i am nearing 7k and it just recently showed up. I will make contact with my dealer and see about getting it replaced under warranty.

I would try wiping it with wax and grease remover or maybe bug and tar remover to see if it does anything to the discoloration.
It might not be the ceramic coating you put on but could be something the dealer used prepping the car for delivery.

I had something like black adhesive on my roof I had to use bug and tar remover to get off. This was on the car when it was delivered. It was easier to get it off myself than take it back to the dealer.

I dont believe its the ceramic. I took delivery on 12/28 then had the ceramic put on about a week later. this discoloration only showed up within the last week or two.
My OCD wants to see if i can fix it.. but im also afraid that they my deny my warranty claim if my efforts fail. so i will just deal with it until i can get to the dealership to have them check it out

I hope you get a favorable resolution. My personal feeling is that they are going to have an answer that says they can not control contaminants in the air, and that the item is structurally functional. Was the ceramic coating put on by the dealer? Then you might have a better chance.

It was not done by the dealer. there is a local business that gets my business for that stuff. but i really dont think the ceramic had anything to do with it since this issue just showed up. Of course I could easily be wrong. I will definitely check with the dealer, but my main reason for the post was to bring attention to the issue so that others can monitor theirs just in case.
