I have mentioned this problem to my dealership twice, and they can't seem to find any issues. I always have the "car" button on, which is supposed to circulate and recycle the air in the cabin to avoid outside smells. But even with it on, I get an EXTENSIVE amount of outside odors coming in; some cases where I even have to roll the window down. There can be a person 2 cars in front of me smoking a cigarette, and it will smell like someone is smoking in my car. It is absolutely ridiculous. Anyone else have this problem, or have any suggestions? My dealership can't seem to give me any answers...

All vehicles will pull in some fresh air even when recirculation is selected. This is to prevent carbon dioxide poisoning. You can get a charcoal activated cabin air filter if the smells from outside are bothering you. I have a K&N cabin air filter which isn't charcoal, but I almost never get unwanted smells with it. I only smell the occasional diesel truck guy rolling coal, lol.

It is possible that one of the HVAC doors behind the dash isn't operating properly. If the door that shuts off most of the outside air isn't closing the way it should you can end up with too much outside air like when the recirculation is off.

I have always ran re-circ on all of my previous cars. but i havent ran it on my TB RS, i did put in the K&N cabin filter and i have no issue with it pulling in real bad odors.

This little feature has been so important to me living in the city. You get behind a smelly truck or a bus and it reeks up your car! I've had way better systems work for me in previous cars, almost doesn't seem to do much in the TB. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, everyone for your replies!
First off, my dealership has supposedly checked my HVAC system, and they claim it is working fine. I understand that you will get some outside odors, but when I say I am getting outside odor... it is HEAVY. To the point where if I am behind a diesel truck, I have to roll down my window or it just floods my cabin with the exhaust fumes. A person called be 2-3 cars ahead of me smoking, and I can smell it as if they were in the car beside me. It is awful!!!

Hi, picking up on this thread. I have the same exact issue as ADunlap17 on my 2022 trailblazer, did anyone find a solution for this? Thanks.
I have not experienced this particular issue to any noticeable degree, but I recommend the AC Delco carbon/charcoal cabin air filter. The ACDELCO part number is CF1184C. Our owner's manual recommends changing the cabin air filter every 2 years, but I tend to do it sooner as most vehicles recommend yearly replacements. I also believe (don't quote me) that the factory cabin air filter is a regular "particulate" filter so the carbon upgrade may be worth it even if yours isn't old yet--it's only a few dollars more. It's a pretty cheap and easy thing to replace so I'd start there and see if it helps.
