First problem I've had with my Trailblazer. I noticed when I back up, my brakes squeal. Doesn't do it in drive, just when I'm backing up. Car only has about 3600 miles on it, no way they should be worn already. Anyone else having the same issue? Could this be related to the brake recall?

That is not related to the brake recall that is out there. If it does it all the time I would take it to the dealer, it should reproduce the sound for them and they will fix.

Mine does it every once in a while, but only in reverse. It's nothing I'm worried about, just tight brake pad clearances.

I would agree. You don't have many mile son it. Give it a little more miles, take to dealer if it is still happening. Mean time just turn up the radio. :)

Mine has been doing this for a few months now. I bought my 21 Trailblazer in October and I've since brought it in to be documented and there should be a Bulletin from GM about the issue but I just got off the phone with the dealership and there is still no recall which means they will not replace the break pads under warranty yet... super lame. Definitely bring it in and let the dealership document the problem, this will help later down the road when the recall does come out (& may help it come out quicker!!)

My LT did this every time I backed out of the garage for several months. I was told to ignore it as it got so loud neighbors knew when I left the house! I found another dealer who ordered new brake pads— mine was the front making the noise. He installed those two months ago— no more issues. He said, “no problem getting GM to approve the repair.”

At 18k miles my fron't started squeaking. They have stopped now. So who knows. They looked at them the TB was in for a oil change last week, no issues, not worn.

Update on mine. Replaced with ceramic pads from rockauto ceramic Dynamic Friction 1551230700. Have about 2500 miles now and replacing the stock front pads with these pads cured my squealing problem. Took less than 15 minutes for each side, just be careful when removing the pads so you don’t bend the clips.

Did you have to set the front calpers in service mode?
I did not. Figured when the parking brake is off, the piston is retracted. The piston was fully retracted with the park brake off, I just took the old squeaky semi metallic pads off and installed the new ceramic, then bolted the calipers back on. It was literally two 13mm bolt heads each side and then done. I wouldn’t have attempted to push the piston back in manually without using service mode, but here it’s not needed, at least for me.

My 2021 Trailblazer is doing this! We have taken it to the dealership 3 times now. 1st we told them about the squeaking on the first free oil change. The Dealership said it could be the back brakes but they were on back order. They'll call us when they come in. I called them a few days later and wouldn't you know the brakes came in that day. Swapped out the new back brake pads for newer back brake pads. Seemed fine. Got home went reverse down the small incline in our driveway and SQUEAK happened again. It happens every morning reversing down our small driveway and inching up to pick up or kid from school. This is so frustrating. We want back today as they were going to install the FRONT brakes to get rid of it. Mind you those were on backorder too and took another 2 weeks to order and set up an appointment. The technician did a test run around the area that has no decline and my partner tested at the dealer in reverse as well to show them..... No Squeaking! WTH! They wouldn't change the front pads that should be under warranty. The whole point coming back the THIRD time was to fix the issue. Now I have to record with my phone the loud squeaking in reverse to show them in order for them to replace it. I'm never getting a Chevy again after this mess of a new car. If anyone from this thread comes back and reads this Can you confirm if this happens AFTER you release the parking brake? I think it has something to do with the parking brake. I just left the parking brake off for 2 hours and then tried to record the loud sound and guess what it didn't happen. GRRRR

I always used the parking brake and always got the squeaking very loudly every time I backed up. Just buy the pads I reference in this thread and install them it will cure the issue. Why would you forgo using your emergency brake instead of actually having the problem fixed?

i was trying to find the actual issue and if anyone else could comment on if it happens after the emergency brake is on. Growing up, unless i was on steep hills, i seldom didn't put the emergency brake on. I was able to get a vid and sent it to the service manager. Hopefully now with proof they will put on new front brakes and it fixes the issue. I appreciate your response.

I too recently had a horrible dealership experience here in IL even after test driving with a technician to duplicate the noise and having videos. They told me that it’s normal for breaks to squeak and Chevy would not warranty break pads. Offered to pay out of pocket to get it taken care of and they said that what I'm asking for just isn’t possible… ended up ordering pads and rotors from rock auto after over a week of my car being at the service center. Pretty dissatisfied with the entire experience, but still love the car.

Rage keep us posted, hopefully they will take care of you. The actual issue I would think is the brake pad material, because swapping the semi metallic for ceramic does the trick. Good luck

Glazing will occur on new brakes driven in dusty/dirt road conditions. Causes that but not an issue aside from noise
