just about 10 minutes ago, i was in a parking space and when i started to back out, i got an alert about my power steering needs to be serviced. is that anything serious that could actually mess with my steering while driving? i’ve only noticed that the back up parking assist lane thing won’t move when backing up and the keep in lane button won’t work either. driving seems fine, only this icon showed up

The icon/light is traction control. Maybe you just accidentally turned it off? It's the button with the same symbol on it forward of the shifter. Several owners have had the service power steering msg pop up (including me) and usually it's just a software glitch, bad communication between control modules. If the warning goes away on the next restart you should be ok, but if the msg keeps coming back and your traction control light stays on its time to have the dealership look at it. FYI, we have electric power steering.
