I too have had my fair share of chips, but no more here than with any other vehicle I’ve owned in 50 plus years of car/truck ownership. Our 2021 TB Activ has nearly 25k. Further more, it’s had windshield replaced as well due to a significant rock hit right in drivers forward field of view. Wasn’t a rock truck. Not a truck at all. A regular car changed into my lane with minimal following distance picking up a rock on the road surface just enough to send it into me. I’d bet 95% of all rocks are slung up on our front end by the car in front tire treads gripping the rock just enough to get it airborne, not falling off a commercial vehicle as it happens. Yes, the rock likely fell off one originally, but we just roll over them soon after. I try to be cognizant of safe following distance from those in front, but so often interstate driving and careless drivers make that hard. No easy answer. Rock shields and even clear acrylic installed to leading surfaces can really make a difference, especially if the paint pen isn’t an option.
