I installed the new K&N engine filter today for the 1.2T and 1.3T engines, part number 33-5107. It's very easy to swap out the factory filter for the K&N, but I decided to do a write up for anyone else who wants to install one.

Remove the air intake duct going to the air filter box. There are 2 squeeze tabs at the front by the radiator and 2 tabs where the duct connects to the air box. You also need to remove the 2 push pins that hold the air duct to the radiator support. To remove the push pins you need to gently pull up the heads to release them.

Once you have the air duct removed you need to remove the lid to the air filter box. Loosen the hose clamp going into the air filter box by using a 7mm socket or flat blade screwdriver. Loosen the 4 phillips head screws using a P1 or P2 screwdriver. You don't need to remove the screws, just loosen them enough to remove the lid. You don't need to unplug the MAF sensor harness, just remove the lid and just set it on the engine. Now you can remove the factory filter.

If you want to clean out the lower half of the air box it's easily removed by just pulling it straight up. It's only held in place by 3 rubber grommets. It's also a good idea to clean out any debris that might clog the drain on the bottom which is just a rubber nipple.

All that's left is just drop in the new K&N filter and reverse the steps above. I also installed the warning sticker on the lid so that the technicians at the dealership don't remove your air filter when you go in for any type of service.

Here are some comparison pictures of the 2 filters.

Nice, and thanks for posting... Notice any sound difference by chance?
I haven't driven it much since the install, but it does seem a little bit louder. I'll drive it more today and report back.

Copy that, just checked their website and they are still out of stock.
I originally ordered it on Amazon back in early July, but they gave a delivery date of July 28th to Aug 28th so when I saw it in stock on K&N's web site about a week ago I canceled my order with Amazon and placed my order with K&N. It took about a week to receive it from them. Just check both sites evey few days and I'm sure they'll have more in stock soon.

I've driven our Trailblazer at least 40 miles since the K&N filter was installed and there is definitely a difference in throttle response, acceleration and passing power on the freeway. The first time my wife drove she asked me if I did something to her Trailblazer, lol. She mentioned that it seemed faster and this was before I even told her about the new filter.

The noise increase is minimal. If you have the stereo turned down, you can barely hear air rushing into the throttle body. I actually thought it would be louder like the 1.4 in the Cruze, but the turbo and waste gate system are very quiet on the 1.3T.

If I had to guess the filter probably only adds a few hp (5 or less), but it's definitely more responsive now and you really notice it more in the higher rpms where this engine lives anyway. It might take a few tanks of gas before I can say anything about fuel mileage increases or losses, but I'll definitely follow up on that too.

The only reason I got one was because I set up a notification alert when the filter was to be back in stock. As soon as I saw that e-mail I ordered one from their site and canceled my Amazon order.
