RECALL
Mispositioned emergency jack may not support vehicle

Description
General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2020 2022 model year Buick Encore GX and 2021 2022 model year Chevrolet Trailblazer vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with an emergency jack that, if not positioned as directed in the vehicle owner’s manual, could fracture and fail to support the vehicle. If the jack fractures while under load, the vehicle could collapse, potentially injuring people near or under the vehicle.
Safety Risk
If the jack fractures while under load, the vehicle could collapse, potentially injuring people near or under the vehicle.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the recalled jack with a jack with a different design. Undelivered vehicles will have the emergency jack removed prior to delivery. These owners will be provided a replacement jack under a customer satisfaction field campaign.

Currently, there is no replacement available. If you go to the dealer, they will remove the jack from the car and tell you to come back some other time for the replacement. There is no published date of arrival for the replacements.

Just as an update, had to bring the car in to the dealership for an unrelated issue.
They removed the jack, still no estimate on a replacement, and told me that in the event I get a flat tire to call a number on the invoice that they gave me and GM will cover the total cost of roadside assistance (though I think I’m going to stick with just calling on star and letting GM deal with that headache later if the need arises)

I just spoke to the service department at my local dealer. No replacement jacks available. If I bring the car in for service they will remove the jack. This is a comical situation where they leave you without a jack and make you wait for roadside assistance. I've traveled in many areas without cell service. I'm not surrendering the jack until a replacement is available.

That's what I would do, just be extra careful if you have to use it.

Plastic Jack 😂
Sorry to hear that. It still doesn't make sense why some owners like me got the metal jack and some got the plastic version. I originally thought maybe the AWD Trailblazers got the metal one since they are heavier than the FWD's, but there have been a few AWD owners who also got the plastic one, so who knows what GM was thinking.

I mean from an architectural standpoint plastic could be used in some areas without impacting the structural integrity, however, the most important parts need to be metal. My trailblazer didn't even have a jack. The salesman said he only found out when he ran the report for applicable recalls and saw the jack recall. He had never heard of this before.

For anyone who hasn't seen a broken plastic jack. These pictures were taken by a FB group member who had the their jack collapse while trying to change a tire. He mentioned that he had 1 or 2 lug nuts on when it happened so nothing was damaged, but it clearly could have been worse.

I took mine into the dealership this weekend for the complimentary oil change and they didn't take my jack. In the past they always tell me if there's a recall on my past vehicles and took care of it right then. I'm not worrying about it until they have replacement jacks.

I'm surprised they didn't take the jack since it's a liability issue for GM. If you do have to use it and don't want to use Roadside assistance make sure it's on a level surface.

This is ridiculous. They took my jack without my permission and don’t know when replacement. They have them. You have to pay for it yourself if you want one right now. We should file a class action lawsuit
