FYI that the front seat headrests (head restraints) are not removable. We discovered this in the owners manual today while trying to install our kurgo dog barrier and dog hammock for the back seat. The barrier uses D rings attached to the metal posts of the headrests, which has installed easily for our other vehicles. This was an unfortunate discovery, but we'll figure out an alternative attachment scheme.

Could you use a snap-link?

For attaching D ring to head restraint shafts? Available at the home store or hardware store.

That would probably work. I've just now installed them using a strap from one d-ring, around the furthest head rest pillar, and to the other d-ring (per seat). Seems to be a sturdy work around.

Quaid,

Welcome to the forum.
This is a bummer for me. I tried to see if they removed previously and no luck. I was going to take them off and have the headrests covers embroidered with a logo. I have done this with another car and I love the results. I like adding details that can set it apart from others. The possibility of having it done sounds like it may be expensive due to labor to remove seats and disassemble.

I thought I read in the manual that they are removable.

I provided a direct quote from the owners model which did not mince words.

Perhaps this is a change that has been made to the car mid-model year, like the wireless android auto.

What’s the “trick” to get them out?
so ya lean the seat all the way back, extend the head rest all the way, move the seat fabric/cusion away and you will see a little pin like piece, push it in and pull the head rest off, I can upload a pic if need be

I wish i would have seen this post 2 days ago as i just replaced my headrest's with the RS ones.. I should have scanned the instruction sheet that shipped with them but i threw it out.
However, what Ikecaga said was accurate, there is a little pin on both posts, kinda looks like the head of a cotter pin. Just use a pick or small screwdriver and pull the head of that pin towards the back seat. while you have it pushed back then pull on the post just slightly, repeat this on the other post and the headrest will come right out.

Here are the instructions and a couple of pic's, that little round looking pin, push or pull a little to unlock the headrest, then pull it out.
Thank you for posting the instructions. This is great information.
The headrests look fantastic installed. It gives the interior such a sportier look.
