I purchased a brand new trailblazer on January 25th. On January 27th on the way home from NJ the transmission went out leaving me stranded on the turnpike. The car has 307 miles. Needless to say I am not sure what to do. It’s currently in TomsRiver NJ at dealership. Not too confident that even with a replacement the same thing will happen again. I’m tempted to exercise the 7 day return policy.

I wonder if this is related to the transmission TSB that GM just released? In that TSB a snap ring inside the transmission was improperly installed.

this happened to me not even 24 hours later with my car! I had to get a whole brand new car!
Sorry to hear that. Did they replace your Trailblazer with another one instead of fixing it?

Thank you, yes they had to give me a whole new trailblazer because they said when they did a diagnostic 50 codes came up with the transmission and the engine completely gone. They said it will take months to fix every problem the car had and they needed to get me a new one. It was terrible I almost died. I was doing 55mph on the highway and next thing I know the car started jumping and then I noticed the speed was dropping so I would press the gas so I dont cause an accident but once I press the gas it would break like if I was pressing the break. Then the car just completely shut down I couldn’t even get it to the side of the highway! So crazy it had 58 miles on it, I was 25 mins with the truck straight out of the dealer.

Wow, that's crazy! I had a similar problem with a 2012 Cruze that would randomly downshift into 1st gear when traveling at highway speeds. That car nearly killed me twice so GM bought it back. It seems like the early Trailblazer build dates are having far less problems than some of the newer ones coming out. I've had my RS since May and haven't had any problems other than a few software glitches which have gone away with updates. I hope your new Trailblazer lasts much much longer because it is a nice vehicle overall.

Oh my sounds insane! So sorry you had to go through that as well. Yes i noticed! I joined this group to find out more. According to chevy this is the first time it “ever happened” but I found it hard to believe that I was the only one this happened too.

How are "updates" sent to a car. Via the shop or via Onstar?
Pretty sure it's through OnStar, I've had 2 updates since Sep 2020. None of the previous glitches have come back so they must have done something right.

Can you tell when an update has been done or any that have been 'applied" to your TB?
The update is displayed on the screen and you have to accept it to begin the download which takes 5-10 minutes to complete. I remember the message showing up after I shut off the engine. The car can't be running when the update is downloading.

I have never seen this before then. We do not have Onstar, we do not pay for the service. Do I need to be to get updates?
I don't currently pay for Onstar either. It was free for 1 or 2 months and then we paid for the service for another 2 months before cancelling. I do know for sure our Onstar service was not active when the downloads were done. I would say either your Trailblazer doesn't need an update or the service isn't coming through like it should. It might be worth asking your dealership if there are any updates available and mention that other owners are getting wireless updates.

A lot of cars are made, mistakes in building them have to happen time to time. Some of us sadly get the brunt end of that when it happens to a car we bought.
Did they replace it with one just like (COLOR, OPTIONS, ETC) it or did you get to choose another?

You don't need OnStar for the updates it will automatically ask you. You may he having a network issue with your location more then anything else. I think asking the dealer is your best option. I believe it's built into the same system where even if you don't pay for OnStar the alert will still go off in your car if say something fishy happens. Not sure how integrated things are anymore but I remember mine went off when a guy tried stealing my 2017 Camaro when I was at a vendor visit for a previous job. Turned out to be a local repo guy looking for high ticket vehicles apparently he didn't know a 4cyl for a V8 and the store cameras caught him to which made it all the more amusing. That car was well out of it's free OnStar and hadn't even had the data/wifi hooked up yet at the time.
